The installation Objects are Closer was specially made for the exhibition Thresholding in Smart Project Space in Amsterdam, which sought to thematize the transition between the art space and the public space. An enormous mirror was attached to the outside of the building in the manner of rear view mirrors which are sometimes attached to the houses of older and less mobile people who, while seated behind their window, can see the street beyond without being seen themselves. In a similar way the viewer of the exhibition could watch, with the benefit of this conveniently placed mirror, the exterior street scene without being noticed. But the enormous scale of the mirror which takes on sculptural dimensions extends the idea into the realm of the absurd since for the passerby in the street, whose attention is alerted, it is immediately evident that this is a case of covert observation.
