On six monitors we see the faces of six teenagers who watch something which is not visible on the screens.
In each of them the expressions of intense concentration are clearly detectable in the rapid up and down motion of their pupils. They appear to be youngsters who are filmed while they play the computer game ‘Counter-Strike’, a game usually played via internet in virtual groups so that the participants act in private and often do not know each other. The choice to present the videos on separate monitors which frame each of the six faces, doubles the experience of looking at a screen while retaining the solitary position of each.
By focusing solely on the faces of the players we are enabled to observe circumspectly the unique behaviour of game players who in their heightened state of concentration do not seem to be conscious of the presence of the video camera pointed so directly at them.
